Tesla Competiror??? 2022 Polestar 2 Review | Walkaround | Interior & Exterior – The 2022 Polestar 2 is a lot of things, specifically a four-door hatchback with the proportions of a sedan and the ride height of a crossover, but above all else it’s an electric vehicle. Its Polestar branding will be familiar to fans of Volvo’s performance division, but now it signifies pure-electric and plug-in-hybrid models. The 2’s odd design isn’t very pretty, but its hatchback body and much lower price make it more practical and attainable. Of course, its interior is richly appointed and fitted with an intuitive infotainment system. The 2022 Polestar 2 is available with either one or two electric motors. The car with the single-motor setup is front-wheel drive and has an estimated driving range of 270 miles. The dual-motor 2 has a shorter range, but that’s offset by all-wheel drive and significantly more power for quicker acceleration.

For 2022, Polestar introduces a new front-drive configuration and drastically lowers the lineup’s prices. The new single-motor, front-drive model has an EPA-rated range of 270 miles, and the dual-motor model’s range rises from 233 to 249 miles. The 2 also offers new individual options and the ability to choose specific packages instead of them being clumped together. Those who select the loaded Plus package will benefit from numerous luxury amenities as well as a newly added mechanical heat pump that Polestar says can boost the hatch’s estimated range by as much as 10 percent. An over-the-air update will increase the dual-motor Polestar 2’s horsepower and pound-feet of torque from 408 to 476 and 487 to 502, respectively.

Polestar has significantly lowered the 2’s price by between $14,000 and $15,000, depending on the model. The dual-motor version sees the bigger discount, and despite its shorter range, we prefer its stronger powertrain. Opting for the 2 with two motors unlocks the optional Performance package that we’d select. It includes forged 20-inch wheels with performance tires, upgraded brakes, and adjustable dampers. The only catch is that adjusting them has to be done manually.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Unlike on the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variants of the Polestar 2, the 231-hp single motor is mounted on the front axle. While we haven’t driven this new configuration yet, we have tested the more powerful Launch Edition, which features an electric motor on both axles and generates a total system output of 476 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. The result is an impressively quick hatchback that zipped to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and sped from 50 to 70 mph in 2.2 ticks during our testing. Our example was equipped with the Performance package, which includes 20-inch wheels and summer tires, stiffer suspension components as well as adjustable Öhlins dampers, and upgraded Brembo front brakes. This combination contributed to the 2’s 0.90 g of cornering grip and 157-foot stopping distance from 70 mph in our tests. Polestar also provides three levels of regenerative braking, with the strongest capable of bringing the car to a complete stop without you touching the brake. While the aforementioned kit caters to the enthusiast crowd, we’re convinced the 2 will ride better on the base suspension. The standard all-season tires should improve its driving range, too.
